You ordered one product and opened the parcel to find something else. Now the return is being refused, the refund is delayed, or Flipkart says it has paid you when your account shows nothing. That is frustrating, especially when you have already spent time explaining the mistake. You do have practical options. Start by preserving proof of what you ordered and received, then make a clear written refund request. If that fails, you can take the same evidence to the National Consumer Helpline and, if necessary, a Consumer Commission.

First, pin down exactly where your refund is stuck

A wrong-product dispute can go wrong at several stages. Flipkart might reject the return request, approve it but never arrange pickup, collect the item and leave the refund pending, or mark a refund as complete when no money has reached you. Your next message should describe the specific problem, rather than simply saying, “I have not received my refund.”

Open the order in Flipkart’s Help Centre at https://www.flipkart.com/helpcentre and choose the issue that matches a wrong product. Do this as soon as you discover the mismatch, preferably within the return window displayed for that order. Take a screenshot of the window and your request. Even if it has expired, report the mismatch and ask for a written decision rather than assuming you have no options.

Ask for a pickup and refund to your original payment method. If the wrong item is still with you, keep it, its packaging and its label together. Do not send it to an address supplied only in an informal chat, and do not hand it over without a pickup confirmation or receipt. If it has already been collected, find the pickup message, tracking entry or receipt now. That record may become central to your complaint.

If Flipkart says the refund was sent, ask for the refund transaction reference, amount and processing date. Then check your account statement for the period covering that date. A status message on an app is not the same thing as money arriving. This distinction mattered in a consumer case discussed below.

Build one evidence folder before the chats disappear

You do not need a perfect unboxing video to raise a complaint. You do need a clear, consistent record showing three things: what you paid for, what arrived, and what happened after you complained. Save copies outside the app where possible. Listings can change, chat histories can be hard to retrieve, and a return status may update without explaining why.

What to save

Why it helps

Order page, product listing and invoice

Shows the item promised, the price paid, order details and the seller named on the invoice.

Payment confirmation and account statement

Shows your payment and, if a refund is claimed, whether the credit actually arrived.

Parcel label and dated photos or video

Connects the delivered package to your order and shows the item inside it.

Model, serial number and packaging details

Helps distinguish the wrong item from the one you ordered, particularly for electronics.

Return request, pickup proof and tracking

Shows whether you requested a return and whether the item was collected.

Chats, emails, ticket numbers and decisions

Shows when you reported the problem and how Flipkart or the seller responded.

Give each file a simple name, such as “order-confirmation,” “wrong-item-photo” or “pickup-16-september.” Write a short timeline with dates: order placed, delivery received, mismatch reported, pickup completed, refund promised and last response. This makes it much easier for another person to understand your case without reading dozens of screenshots in the wrong order.

If you did not record the opening of the parcel, do not manufacture or exaggerate evidence. Photograph the item you received, preserve the label and explain plainly when you noticed the mismatch. If the item has been picked up, rely on your earlier photos and the pickup record. Your consumer refund complaint will be stronger when every claim can be matched to a document.

Do you have a right to a refund for the wrong product?

Receiving something different from what you bought is not merely an inconvenient return preference. The Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020 say, in rule 6(3), that a marketplace seller must not refuse a return or refund where goods differ from what was advertised or agreed. The exact facts still matter, including what the listing promised and what your evidence shows was delivered.

The Consumer Protection Act, 2019 also provides a route for complaints involving a defect, deficiency in service or unfair trade practice. These terms are defined in sections 2(10), 2(11) and 2(47). You do not have to fit every difficulty into every category. In plain language, your complaint should explain the mismatch and the failure to put it right, supported by the order, delivery and return records.

If the dispute reaches a Consumer Commission, section 39 allows remedies that can include replacement, refund with possible interest, compensation and costs. Those outcomes depend on the evidence and the Commission’s decision. A wrong delivery does not automatically entitle everyone to a large compensation payment, and there is no universal legal rule that every Flipkart refund must arrive within 14 days.

The e-commerce rules also require a platform grievance mechanism. Under rules 4(4) and 4(5), complaints must be acknowledged within 48 hours and redressed within one month. Keep the date and ticket number so you can show when you raised the issue. If the response is an unexplained rejection or another promise with no payment, you can escalate instead of starting the story from scratch each time.

Make Flipkart and the seller answer a clear written demand

Start in the Help Centre against the correct order, then keep all further communication in writing where possible. Address the seller identified on your invoice as well as Flipkart. That matters because the seller supplied the goods, while Flipkart operates the marketplace and its grievance process. Do not guess the seller’s identity from the parcel alone when the invoice is available.

Your message can be short:

“Order [number], delivered on [date], was for [ordered item], but I received [wrong item]. I reported this on [date] under ticket [number]. I have attached the invoice, parcel label and photos. Please arrange documented pickup if needed and refund ₹[amount] to the original payment method. If you say the refund has already been processed, please share its transaction reference and date. Please give me a written resolution.”

Attach the most relevant files first, not an unlabelled folder of everything you own. If the initial support reply repeats the return policy without addressing the mismatch, respond on the same ticket and request escalation to Flipkart’s grievance officer. Ask the seller for a written response too. Save any rejection reason, including claims that the wrong item failed a pickup or warehouse check, so you can answer the actual objection.

Be careful with offers of a replacement or store credit if what you want is your money back. You can ask how and when a replacement would be delivered, but do not let a vague offer close your refund complaint without your agreement. Our guide to Flipkart return and refund complaints covers the broader complaint route; for this situation, keep the focus on the wrong item and the missing refund.

Where can you go if support keeps repeating itself?

If you have given Flipkart and the seller the evidence and still have no useful resolution, the National Consumer Helpline (NCH) is a sensible next step. It is a free, pre-litigation complaint channel, not a court. You can use https://consumerhelpline.gov.in, call 1915, or WhatsApp 8800001915. Describe the ordered item, the delivered item, the amount paid and the response you have received.

Upload the invoice, mismatch photos, return or pickup proof, support ticket and statement if Flipkart claims it has refunded you. Keep your NCH docket number. Participating companies’ responses are expected within 30 days, but an NCH complaint does not guarantee a refund or prevent you from taking further action. You can use it while continuing to seek a direct written resolution.

Be specific about the outcome you seek: a pickup if the item is still with you, a refund of the price paid, and an explanation of any claimed payment that never appeared. If a company responds through NCH with another generic rejection, save that response. It helps show that you tried to resolve the dispute and identifies what remains contested.

You do not have to pay someone to file an NCH grievance. If you need a fuller walkthrough before proceeding to a formal case, this consumer complaint filing guide explains the distinction between escalating a complaint and filing it before a Commission.

A written demand is often enough to make the issue clear. If it is ignored, a professionally drafted legal notice can set out the order details, evidence, amount sought and a reasonable deadline in one document. It can be especially useful when a costly item has been collected without a refund, or when different support agents keep giving contradictory answers.

You may give 7 to 15 days for a response as a practical choice. That is not a statutory Flipkart refund deadline, and sending a notice does not guarantee payment. You also do not need to wait for a notice period to expire before approaching NCH or filing a consumer complaint. Choose the next step based on the evidence and the responses you already have, not on the idea that a notice is compulsory.

If you would rather have help preparing one, LegalRecovery handles this type of matter under its Consumer Refunds and Complaints service. Its online process starts with case submission and expert review, followed by a professionally drafted notice sent by registered post, multi-channel follow-up and escalation. Pricing starts at ₹1,499 flat fee. You can review how the process works before deciding whether that cost makes sense for your claim.

Whether you write the demand yourself or seek help with a notice for wrong-product delivery, insist on accuracy. State the actual amount paid and attach proof. Do not claim that a complaint has already been filed, or that compensation has already been awarded, if neither is true.

If the refund still does not come, file a consumer complaint

The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission can hear a qualifying complaint when the consideration paid is up to ₹50 lakh. For an ordinary Flipkart purchase, that means the price paid for the goods determines this monetary threshold, not a large compensation figure added to the complaint. Sections 34 and 35 of the Consumer Protection Act govern District Commission jurisdiction and filing.

You can file online through https://e-jagriti.gov.in, which incorporates the earlier e-Daakhil system. Identify the seller from your invoice and set out the platform’s role and responses accurately when naming the parties. Upload a readable, ordered set of documents rather than assuming the Commission can piece together the history from scattered chat images.

Keep the complaint simple: what you ordered, what you received, when you reported it, what happened to the return, and why the refund remains due. Request the proved purchase amount and any other remedy you can reasonably support, such as interest, compensation or costs. Section 39 permits these remedies, but the Commission decides what is justified. Claiming a very high sum without evidence can distract from an otherwise straightforward refund claim.

A real example shows why the paperwork matters. In a Palakkad order dated 14 February 2025, a buyer had paid ₹3,519 for a media player, received a children’s game worth under ₹300, returned it and still had no refund. Screenshots, product photos and a statement helped establish that the claimed refund had not arrived. The Commission ordered the ₹3,519 refund with 10% annual interest, plus ₹10,000 compensation and ₹5,000 costs. Those amounts reflect that case, not a standard award.

If a notice is ignored, you can proceed with the documented complaint rather than sending repeated warnings. The next steps after an ignored notice are most useful when you treat the notice and delivery proof as part of your evidence, not as a substitute for proving the wrong delivery.

How long should you wait, and what should you do today?

Act promptly, but do not confuse different timelines. Report the mismatch immediately and use the displayed return window where possible. Flipkart’s grievance mechanism has the acknowledgment and redress periods described above; NCH is a separate pre-litigation route. Under section 69 of the Consumer Protection Act, a consumer complaint generally must be filed within two years of the cause of action. Do not let repeated assurances consume that time.

The Act asks Commissions to endeavour to decide straightforward complaints within three months after the opposite party receives notice, or five months if testing is needed. These are targets, not dependable dates for receiving money. The Palakkad complaint, for example, was filed in June 2024 and decided in February 2025. An online filing option also does not mean every stage of a case is guaranteed to require no attendance.

For today, take three manageable steps: save the listing and invoice, photograph the wrong item and parcel label, and raise or update your written Flipkart ticket with a precise refund request. Next, collect the pickup and account records that match Flipkart’s response. If that does not resolve it, use NCH or move towards a Commission complaint. You do not need to know every legal term before you begin. You need a clear account of what happened and proof that the promised refund is still missing.
